Delighting in Touch
Delighting in Touch
Today brings our last installment of the “Five Senses.” This series has proven an interesting and immensely rewarding study! We have saved the sense of touch for last. Do comment with further suggestions!
1. Touch and move things with a gentle hand, not with a “clatter and bang.” There is nothing quite so unpleasant as a woman with a rough hand. She slaps you smartly on the back , knocks over everything she touches, and seems to take great delight in the music of clashing pots and pans. Putting a little gentleness in your hand will do a great deal for improvement.
2. Cuddle up in some old quilts with a favorite book, movie, or person. After years of washing and loving, Great-Grandma’s hand-stitched quilts have a wonderful feel and smell to them. They are perfect for snappy nights and rainy afternoons!
3. Give someone a big hug or hold hands with a loved one.
4. Communicate love, concern, or compassion through touch. Whether it be by a friendly hand on the shoulder, a soft pat on the back, or a kiss on the cheek, take the time to let others know that you are with them.
5. Hold a little baby. Here is a bundle of softness and sweet smells!
6. Shake hands with a stranger - at church, for instance. Nothing will convey a warm welcome quite like a heartfelt handshake and a nice smile to go with it.
7. Use soft fabrics or yarns to make a pillow for a friend. As your hand passes over your work, pray for that special person. Every time they rest with it, they will remember your friendship.
8. Keep your skin clean and moisturized.
9. Brush and wash hair regularly to keep it soft and smooth.
10. Walk barefoot over a clean floor. My father tells me that this is one of his favorite things to do, and I must agree that it is quite nice! Of course, this requires that you clean the floor!
Please tell us how you have been implementing some of the suggestions given throughout the study. Also, do you have any ideas for future blog “series?” What do you want to read about next?
