We came with notebooks.
We came with notebooks.
I did not post at all last week, which was kept full with the inaugural meeting of the Soirée Society of the Arts, a visit to the local botanical garden, and Biggest Brother’s birthday. It is the second event I would like to highlight in this post.
In recognition of Earth Day the local botanical garden offered free entrance. Armed with nature notebooks and colored pencils, we descended on the garden in near-full force. Eight of us.
Enjoy these beautiful photographs taken by Next Sister.
First we stopped at the butterfly garden which was alive with the flutter of jeweled wings. Everyone took out their sketching equipment and settled in some corner to sketch blossoms, buds, butterflies, and dragonflies.
After we finished our sketches in the butterfly garden, we explored the rest of the grounds. At the end of this grassy lane is a lily pond which kept us interested with lilies, fish, pollywogs, and turtles.
Third Brother enjoys the marvelous shade and moistness of the “rain forest.”
This beautiful blue dragonfly basks in the bright sunlight of the “dessert.” I am not sure why I’ve been using so much alliteration in this post...
After crossing the desert we beat a hasty retreat to the shade of a vine pergola, fragrant with the coral blooms of liana.
That day, the garden was offering year-long family memberships for half the price. We took advantage of this wonderful bargain and hope to return to the garden many times!
