For Beautiful Hair, Sing Opera
For Beautiful Hair, Sing Opera
“Do you have time to rinse my hair?” Littlest Sister asks. I do.
“It’s going to be freezing cold isn’t it?” she groans as I come in with a frosty jar of rosy liquid. “That’s the only part I hate.”
I remind her of the benefits of a cold hair rinse. It helps seal the cuticle on the hair shaft, trapping moisture in the hair and resulting in softer and silkier hair. And, you know, everyone’s been complimenting her on her newly enhanced highlights.
With feminine resolve to endure all for beauty’s sake, Littlest Sister leans over the laundry sink and trembles with anticipation. As the frigid water first seeps through to her scalp, Littlest Sister lets out a yell which morphs into a yodel and then into an operatic sostenuto.
I laugh. “It’s kind of cold, isn’t it?”
“Y-e-e-e-s!!” she trills.
Soon the initial shock is over, and I rinse her hair as she continues to sing her impromptu operetta.
“Alright. You’re done. Squeeze out the excess now.”
“I love singing opera,” she says, hopping blithely from the sink and wringing her locks. “Especially when it’s so great for your hair.”
