Dancing Numbers
I’ve always admired numbers, but from a distance. Folk dancing is a pastime I’ve enjoyed for many years. When (during a wholly unrelated internet search) I discovered a video that combined the two, I was ridiculously excited. In the AlgoRythmics series, sorting algorithms (used by computers to quickly order a sequence of elements) are enacted in folk-style dances. Next Sister and I leaned into the computer screen, watching the dancers sort themselves, discovering the patterns, and then learning more about them on Wikipedia. We’re planning to pull out the Rummikub® tiles and time ourselves.
These fun and quirky videos were created by the Sapientia University in Romania. Here are two samples; you can see more of their work at the AlgoRythmics YouTube Channel HERE.

I really did love those movies! For those who are a bit confused, look up algorithms on Wikipedia.

Didn’t we have fun figuring these out together? I love it when we get crazy-excited about the same things. (“It has pockets!” ;-)
