Movie Night
Friday evening is distinguished in our family as Date Night for our parents, and Movie Night for us children. Tonight we are looking forward to popping several gigantic bowls of popcorn and sitting around the humming projector to watch The Great Escape.
I thought it might be fun to see whether any of my readers can identify these laughable quotes from ten favorite films. I’ll post answers when I get a response. You have had two hints already. :-)
1.“Bill’s thirty-two. He looks thirty-two. He looked it five years ago, and he’ll look it twenty years from now. I hate men.”
2.“Your taste in music is excellent. It exactly coincides with my own!”
3.“Now, the work you will be asked to do will require a little low-altitude flying, so hedge-hopping on this trip is perfectly okay. Only bear in mind that cowboys wear pretty tall hats, so watch your step, men.”
4.“It left us speechless, quite speechless I tell you, and we have not stopped talking of it since.”
5.“That price on my head, was that dead or alive?”
“Not sure. See if he starts shooting at you.”
6.“Afraid this tea’s pathetic. Must have used these wretched leaves about twenty times. It’s not that I mind so much. Tea without milk is so uncivilized.”
7.“But he—he—he—he’s decrepit! He’s senile!”
“Oh? He’s just five years younger than I am.”
8.“Pity about the hair. I suppose you’ve tried everything? Bear’s grease?”
9.“Jack, I fear you have burdened me with a debt I can never fully repay.”
“Nonsense! Name a shrub after me. Something prickly and hard to eradicate.”
10.“How’d you sleep?”
“Like a baby. Woke up every two hours and cried.”
Here is a last hint.—I did refrain from including quotes from animated films, a few of which I do number among my favorites. Last week we watched (for the umpteenth time) Hoodwinked, an enduringly hilarious family favorite. We cannot hear the phrase “be prepared” without breaking into bleating song.
Be prepared! Be prepared!
This lesson must be shared.
This lesson must be shared:
Be prepared!
Be prepared! Be prepared!
And unless you got a spare,
You got one life,
So handle it with care!

I recognized most of the quotes (all from movies I love :), but I won’t spoil the quiz by saying where they came from. I must say, however, that I do not remember the origin of the fifth one. You already said no to The Great Escape, and Megamind was ruled out. From 2011, you say? Not Master and Commander. Oh, wait! Inception? Thought of Source Code.

Well, I was wrong. The movie was released in 2010. You were right, though. The fifth quote is from Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Cobb has noticed that he is being followed, but Eames is nonchalant.
