The Little Niche
The neighbor stopped by the front gate to say hello. “Why are you all dressed up?” she asked Littlest Sister, noting the pencil skirt and black heels. “Are you going out?”
“Oh, no,” Littlest Sister replied, “We’re making a restaurant for our parents.”
Papa has a long commute to and from work and had complained about the lack of good radio stations, so for Christmas we children (headed by the creative Next Sister) recorded our own radio station. We each chose five favorite songs we thought he would enjoy, and took turns being radio hosts, introducing our choices with commentary on the piece, composer, or artist. We put in a talk show, and a 1950‘s radio drama. We had a lot of fun with tongue-in-cheek news and weather reports. The crowning touch was a game show. Next Sister used the voice-changing feature on Garage Band to ask a riddle, and informed the listeners that the first five callers with the correct answer would win a free dinner for two at the “Little Niche.”
The “Little Niche,” I must explain, is our name for the “restaurant at home.” Littlest Sister owns the restaurant, does the decorating, and acts as hostess, and the rest of us make up the chef staff, waiters, bouncers, and clean-up crew—and, recently, the valet and the live music. (We’re just learning to drive cars and play recorders. ;-)
Well, Papa called the radio station with the correct answer. He redeemed his certificate last week, and we spent days planning and preparing the meal and the romantic “aurora” (ahem, “aura”). Last Friday evening, he and Mama dressed up—suit and heels—and walked out the front door. They drove around the block, and pulled up to the front of the five-star Hotel Michelle.
I have assembled a photo album of their experience. There you can see and comment on photos of the setting, gourmet meal, and live music performance.

And it was an absolutely lovely experience. The food was better than at the finest restaurant—not to mention the wonderful staff and musical performances. Five stars just doesn’t seem enough! I’d tell people about it, but I’m afraid if word got out it would ruin the quaint, exclusive atmosphere ;-) of the place.
You are all AMAZING in EVERY way and a blessing to us every day.
Thank you. <3 <3 X O X O <3 <3

It’s a heart, funny girl, because she loves us. :-)
We love you too, Mama. Here’s a heart (or an Eskimo kiss) for you. <3
