THE IRONY
Irony is the gaiety of reflection and the joy of wisdom.—Anatole France
I had been cantankerous all weekend. I was adjusting to a new work schedule, was trying to squeeze in my personal projects, and had spent many confused hours trying to set up our family book-keeping using a new program. I snapped at everyone who tried speaking to me above the roar of the iPod in my ears.
Unhappy with the way I was treating everyone, I decided to make an early evening of it. I made myself a salad of romaine with spicy buttermilk dressing. I took it to bed, grabbing a book from the library shelf in passing.
Finally settled between pink sheets, a forkful of salad in my mouth, I looked at the title page of my book—The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm.
You know what? The irony cheered me right up. And I woke up to a much sweeter morning.
