EARTH DAY 2014
‘Ylang-ylang!’ I cried, finally recognizing the cloying tropical scent: ‘The Chanel No. 5” flower!’ We twirled beneath the canopy, faces uplifted, searching the interlacing branches for the yellow flowers of Cananga odorata. I am sure the lady at the butterfly conservatory thought we were a little crazy as we wandered in circles muttering, ‘long yellow petals that dangle...’ But we found them!—a modestly-colored bunch tangled in the leaves high above our heads.
We danced the dance a few times that morning, catching a sweet perfume on the breeze, and circling the area to find its source: gold-dusted acacia, blushing orchid trees, and another that was all the sweeter because we couldn’t find it.
{We celebrated Earth Day last month by bicycling to a local botanic garden. Here are a few photographs from our day out.}
