AUGUST 2014
These things, these things were here and but the beholder/ Wanting; which two when they once meet,/ The heart rears wings bold and bolder/ And hurls for him, O half hurls earth for him off under his feet.—Gerard Manley Hopkins, ‘Hurrahing in Harvest’
It’s hard to believe that the summer is nearly over, and that we are well into the second half of the year. Where does the time go?
I am especially grateful for Friday, after a stressful week. {It’s never a good sign when Tuesday feels like Thursday!} A game of paddle-ball at the beach, and twisting to Chubby Checker with my sisters, provided some relief from the pressures of work, school and projects, but I’m glad to be at the tail-end of this week.
Now that I have some breathing space, I am ready to evaluate this month’s resolutions. Let’s inhale deeply before we plunge ahead!
{Hopkin’s closing stanza from ‘Hurrahing in Harvest,’ is a timely reminder for me. I don’t want busyness to keep me from getting swept off my feet by the beauties that surround me each day.}
